why i love elvis

im currently in my pink snuggie. sitting on my couch. watching the tcm Elvis movie marathon. (get a mental picture of that)

why do i LOVE these moves SO much.

SO MUCH! LIKE SO MUCH!!!!!!!

(they are horrible, elvis is NOT a good actor, but there is something cool about that)

when i was younger, i watched them ALL the time. (poor john david...and mom for that sake...the trips to colorado...i can only imagine)

why do i love these movies???

because im obsessed with the 60's? (did this start my love of all things vintage?)

i love musicals?

they all have the same plot? elvis is troubled (too rich, too poor, too country, in the army) and the girl he loves is unreachable, after a horribly bad fight scene (always), he wins that really cute girl with the perfect flipped hair. (was i not smart enough to follow normal cartoons?)

Breakdown:

Live a little Love a little....ok....contains one of the weirdest songs you will ever hear...."edge of reality" but also has the most awesome song "A little less conversation a little more action" i think the leading girl in this one is REALLY cute. and i loved her apartment.
Greg Nolan is a newspaper photographer who lives a fun and carefree life. That is, until he meets a headcase named Bernice, who assumes different names and personalities whenever the mood hits her. She manages to lose his job and apartment after drugging him. However, she manages to find him another apartment, and he wants to pay her back. So he gets two photographer jobs: one at a Playboy-like magazine and the other at a very conservative magazine. He now has to manage balancing the two jobs along with dealing with Bernice and her odd ways. (i always loved the name bernice in this movie....how random is that?)

Frankie and Johnny....ok....one of the worse(r) ones. a Highlight is that the leading lady also is Ellie Mae Clamped off of Bev Hillbillies....cute western-y coustumes too.
Elvis gambles with his luck as he goes for a lucky redhead, Nellie Bly, instead of his beautiful blonde, Frankie. (ohhhhhhhhhhhhh....always the redhead....)

Probably one of the best....Blue Hawaii!!!! the songs are good! and this one features ANGELA LANDSBURY as elvis's mom. love the hawaiian sets and i LOVE the clothes in this one. and i LOVE elvis's parents house in this one. oh and the cars they drive. there is a pink jeep that is TOO cute. i saw it when i visited graceland.

Chadwick Gates (Presley) has just gotten out of the Army, and is happy to be back in Hawaii with his surfboard, his beach buddies, and his girlfriend. His mother wants him to go to work at the Great Southern Hawaiian Fruit Company, but Chad is reluctant. So Chad goes to work as a tour guide at his girlfriend's agency (always made me crave pineapple this movie did....why the name chadwick?)

Clambake!!!!! love this one. very beachy and fun. and it features the very cute shelly fabres. half the fun of these movies are looking at the girls hair, swimsuits and clothes. i love the 60s. this has fun songs and just the whole setting. they waterski a lot.
Scott Heyward is the son of a rich oilman. He decides to leave so he can discover life for himself. He runs into Tom Wilson, a water-skiing instructor who has no luck with the women. Tom offers to switch places with Scott so they can have a taste of what life is like in each other's shoes. Scott goes to work teaching water skiing for a Miami hotel, while Tom has fun pretending he is rich. Scott is taken with Dianne Carter, who is searching for a rich guy to snag. She decides to make a play for James J. Jamison III, owner of a pajama company and a boat-racing champion. Scott agrees to help her land Jamison, but in the process falls for her.

Kissin Cousins! SOOOOO DORKY, and i mean dorky yall, but so fun! my cousin ann and i rented this from our grandmothers grocery store in Warren arkansas and we LOVE this move. and would laugh our heads off. but once again, SO FUN!!!!

no plot to mention here...but elvis plays a double role....with BAD haircolor

AND another great one....VIVA LAS VEGAS! so cute. but mostly NOT because of the plot but bc ann margaret and elvis are so dang cute together. and she does a good dance scene early in the movie. they had an affair during this movie.

Lucky Jackson (Elvis Presley) goes to Las Vegas, Nevada to participate in the city's first annual Grand Prix. However, his race car is in need of a new engine in order to compete. Jackson raises the money but mislays it when distracted by a local swimming instructor, Rusty Martin (Ann-Margret). Soon, Jackson's main competition arrives in the form of Count Elmo Mancini (Cesare Danova), who attempts to steal both the race and Rusty.

So, yes, i like elvis..a little..but really more than that....i LOVE these horrible movies he made in the sixties!!!! its just a strange fascination. part of the coolness is how understated and under budgeted they were. they are all really colorful fun and kept me entertained as a youngster and still today!!! ill always choose an elvis movie!!!

currently watching : Girl Happy

ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE LOVE THESE LITTLE HIDDEN JEWELS?????????????

Well, now you have sparked my interest, that i didn't have for Elvis movies in the first place, ha! But I will tell you this, I am a BIG fan of Elvis! I love him. How can you be American and not love him? Seriously, his voice and his kind face, aaahhh. One of my favorite songs he did was "MY way". Sometimes I turn it on super loud and sing so loud....Ha! I get chills when I hear him sing it. I am such a goofy nerd. ha! Yep, I love Elvis. :) Now, because of this blog posting, I may have to watch one of his movies. :)

I read this whole post and was just waiting for you to mention Girl Happy. It's my fav, if I were to have a fav horrible Elvis movie. My former crazy step-mother loved all his movies and I succumbed to her begging to watch with her.
